Happy Summer! If you're looking for something fun, entertaining, or educational to do over this summer weekend, you've come to the right place. We've created another list of some of our favorite local events this weekend so you won't miss a thing.

 

Philadelphia Folk Festival

The Philadelphia Folk Festival returns for the 58th year! Come enjoy live music in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. Presented by the Philadelphia Folksong Society, the festival turns a working farm into a center for performances, crafts, and fun for the whole family. Performers this year include David Crosby & Friends, Margo Price, The Mavericks, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

 

The Philadelphia Folk Festival is the longest-running outdoor music festival of its kind in North America.

Grab your cowboy hats and boots and come to the zoo on August 17th for a day of country-themed activities. Spend the afternoon at Zoo Brew Beer Garden and Bar with XTU. XTU will be broadcasting live from the zoo from 12:30 PM-3:30 PM! Enjoy animal meet and greets and drink specials throughout the event.

 

Live music from John Valerio (2:30-4:30 pm). Free to attend with zoo admission.

Jack Duffy 5K Power Run

Sunday, August 18th - 8:30 am

 

This event is being held to honor and celebrate the life of Jack Duffy, a brilliant and kind young man, Hatboro-Horsham graduate, Dartmouth student, entrepreneur, and an accomplished runner whose purpose had been “to serve, help, and empower others”. The event will be held on Sunday, August 18th in Horsham, starting and ending at the Hatboro-Horsham High School Stadium and utilizing the lovely, paved Power Line Trail. Proceeds will benefit the Montgomery County Affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to support mental health awareness, advocacy, and education in our community.

 

​Online registration is open through August 16, and all participants who register by August 7 will receive a dri-fit t-shirt. Bib pick-up and registration packets will be available on race day beginning at 7:30 am, with the race starting at 8:30 am.

Cirque Du Soleil Presents AMALUNA at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center

See the hit show Cirque Du Soleil's "Amaluna" this summer under the Big Top on the grounds of the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks.

After directing her daughter's coming of age ceremony, honouring femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance, Queen Prospera causes a storm. A group of young men washes up on the isle, triggering an epic love story between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. Theirs is a love that will be tested.

Movies on the Lawn: How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World

August 16th - 7 pm to 10:30 pm

 

Back by popular demand, Ursinus College and the Collegeville Economic Development Corporation are teaming up again to sponsor FREE family-friendly movies on the front lawn of the Berman Museum of Art. Food trucks, snacks, and a great time for neighbors to enjoy warm summer nights together. Mark your calendar!

 

The College invites families to begin arriving at 7 p.m. with their chairs and blankets and to enjoy the offerings of the food trucks on site. Before the movie, there will be music and entertainment for the kids on the lawn.

 

The movie will start at dusk (8 to 8:30 pm).

 

There is ample parking on the campus and the site is handicapped accessible.

​ZOO TRAIN

August 18th

 

Their VERY FIRST Petting Zoo Train! Ride the train to the beautiful Frog Hollow Farm, just past their Colebrookdale Village site to their zoo! This is about a half hour round trip travel time.

 

Get off the train at Frog Hollow Farm and enter the zoo area, stay for an hour (or more) while visiting the petting zoo. The train will be shuttling back and forth hourly to the Boyertown station.

 

They are so excited to have teamed up with What Knott Farm to offer their first petting zoo excursion!

 

Their last train will depart from Frog Hollow Farm at 5pm to return to Boyertown.

 

Please Note: Their Frog Hollow Farm Site DOES NOT have a ramp, they apologize, but for this expedition, they cannot accommodate wheelchairs.
